not your typical christian conference

One of the cool things about Brandon's job in construction management at the Miami International Airport is that sometimes he runs into old friends that are just passing through. Yesterday he ran into Paul Johnson. In 2003 we traveled with Paul and his totally incredible wife Robin and their daughter (my very good friend) Tami to Peru. They took us to meet an indigenous Amazonian tribe that they have known for over 30 years. Tami grew up in and out of the villages that we visited. Here's MamaBaya and Robin...

Anyway, Paul was headed to Manaus, Brazil to participate in a conference. Manaus is basically smack in the middle of the Amazon. This was not just any big band and ladies with big hair christian conference. This was a conference for 2000-3000 indigenous leaders from across the Amazon. It was the largest gathering of Christian indigenous people in the amazon region in history. The event was sponsored by CONPLEI (National Council of Indigenous Evangelical Pastors & Leaders) and is held every two years. Here's a video someone put together of the one in 2006, just to give you a little taste.

We may get caught up in the day to day bustle, but God is BIG and is doing awesome things.
